Cardiac Nuclear Medicine

The radiotracers are typically injected into the bloodstream, inhaled or swallowed, travel through the area being examined, and gives off energy in the form of gamma rays. The gamma rays are detected by a special camera and a computer to create images of the inside of your body.
Uses
- Evaluate the heart for coronary artery disease and cardiomyopathy
- Determine if the heart has been damaged by chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
Risks
- If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, your doctor may recommend another type of exam
