Facility History

SMP Health – St. Catherine North has offered assisted living in Fargo, ND since 1938. Our journey began as the Lutheran Old Peoples’ Home, owned and operated by Lutheran Hospital and Homes Society.

1957
Construction on a new building began on the site. It was damaged by a tornado that hit north Fargo the same year.

1958
Construction was completed and we began to accept residents in the Fargo Nursing Home, which was the name of the facility at this time.

1987
The decision was made to renovate the building to offer more quality care.

1989
Renovations were complete. It included an expanded dining room, new chapel, maintenance area, kitchen renovation, reorganization of the first floor, and all new furnishings, carpet, and bathrooms in each room and sunrooms on each floor.

1990
Our name changed from Fargo Nursing Home to Rosewood on Broadway to reflect the new renovation – the beauty of a rose and the strength of wood.

2002
Began construction on a 28,000 square foot addition.

2004
The new addition was completed. It included a new therapy center to offer compassionate care, an adult day center (Rainbow Square), childcare center (Growing Kids Childcare), new sitting areas on all floors, and 20 new semi-private rooms. In addition, we began a five-phase remodeling project. The remodeling project included new carpet, paint, wallcoverings, and furnishings for all floors. The sitting areas and nurses’ stations were expanded and rebuilt on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floor. Many double rooms were converted to single rooms. Nine more bed licenses were also put into service during the remodeling project.

Today
SMP Health – St. Catherine North hosts 125 beds and offers advanced home care to the Fargo-Moorhead community.
